May Monthly Members Meeting
Our May Monthly Membership Meeting was a vibrant and insightful gathering, centered on the theme “What on Earth is Sustainability?” Held on May 21, 2024, at the Makati Shangri-La, with over 130 guests. The event brought together a diverse group of members and industry leaders to explore and discuss sustainable practices, fostering a sense of community and collaboration.
Joining the discussion, via Zoom, from Sydney, Monica Dasgupta, Head of Sustainability Integration at QBE, emphasized the importance of collective action, stating, “We cannot do it alone.” She highlighted the need for reducing risks, stimulating innovations, and setting strategic priorities. Dr. Tej Gidda, Vice-President and Global Leader of Future Energy at GHD, captivated the audience with his poignant remarks, reminding everyone, “We are borrowing the planet from our children.” He called for sustainable thinking and future energy solutions as essential generational challenges.
Practical steps towards sustainability were discussed, including how firms can embody sustainable practices and the creation of a “Sustainability Champions Network” to lead these initiatives. Challenges such as decarbonization and climate resilience were addressed, with a focus on innovative solutions and collaboration with farmers and insurance partners to mitigate climate risks.
Another highlight of the evening was the New Members Networking Night, which provided a platform for new members to connect, interact, and explore potential collaborations. This segment facilitated meaningful exchanges and strengthened the ANZCHAM community.
