July Monthly Members Meeting – The Digital Era: How to harness the capabilities and opportunities of the Philippines
On July 9, 2024, ANZCHAM hosted a dynamic Monthly Members Meeting centered on the Digital Economy, proudly partnered with Eastern Communication. Their support was instrumental in making this event a success.
This month’s monthly membership meeting drew a significant number of members and featured the introduction of Luisa Rust, the new Senior Trade Commissioner for Australian-New Zealand Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines. Attendees also had the opportunity to engage with Jack Madrid, President and CEO of IT & Business Process Association of the Philippines, Inc. (IBPAP). The insightful discussion was skillfully moderated by Eric Yaptangco, Division Director & Office Head at Macquarie Group.
Before the main discussion, members recognized Tim Given, Deputy Head of Mission at the New Zealand Embassy, and expressed their gratitude for his dedicated service to the chamber and the Philippines. Luisa provided a brief overview of Australia’s Southeast Asian Economic Strategy to 2040, while Jack introduced IBPAP and its objectives.
During the panel discussion, issues in the Philippine BPO industry and various sectors were highlighted, driven by audience questions. Key concerns included the industry’s under-representation in Australia, emphasizing the need for workforce upskilling and educational investment. The conversation also addressed automation’s potential to alleviate labor shortages and stressed the importance of continuous upskilling, to adapt to AI advancements. The panel emphasized the importance of lifelong learning in the digital age to address these issues.
The event ended with participants mingling and exchanging ideas, reinforcing the importance of active collaboration to drive digital transformation and economic growth.
