The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), in collaboration with the Trade 2040 Taskforce and Southeast Asian partners, is reviewing Australia’s regional Free Trade Agreements (FTA) to prioritize future modernization and upgrade negotiations.
On 5 May 2026, ANZCham Key Partners and Members joined DFAT’s Virtual Roundtable to contribute industry insights to the Southeast Asia FTA Modernization Review. Responding to Recommendation 10 of Invested: Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040, discussions focused on the digital economy, net-zero transition, and sustainable agriculture, while highlighting key barriers such as non-tariff measures.
These insights will help shape priorities for strengthening regional trade frameworks and advancing Australia’s economic engagement across Southeast Asia.
