The Hon Andrew Robb AO MP
Minister for Trade and Investment
Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Dear Ministers,
On behalf of the Board and Members of ANZCHAM I wish to thank you both for your active and positive contributions to assisting Australian business interests during the recent Philippines Australia Ministerial Meeting (PAMM) held in Manila.
As you would be aware, ANZCHAM with a membership of over 320, is the premier business group involved in furthering the business interests of Australian (and New Zealand) companies in the Philippines. Our membership includes some of Australia’s largest companies with major interests here, including TELSTRA, ANZ Bank, QBE, Oceana Gold, Indophil Resources and Leighton, many of whose CEO’s were part of the business delegation. We represent companies whose combined trade with and investments in the Philippines form the vast bulk of total Australian trade and investment in the country. We are also active, including through the Joint Foreign Chambers (JFC), in making recommendations to opinion leaders and policy makers on a very wide range of issues which impact on foreign businesses operating or intending to operate in the Philippines.
It is in this light that we very much appreciated your strong support of the Australian business community, and in particular, Minister Robb, your dialogue with the President, on mining. To make a commitment to action in this regard is warmly welcomed by our membership. Mining is an area in which we have been very actively involved for a long period and where ANZCHAM has taken the lead with the JFC.
I am able to say that from our experience of participating in all past PAMMs you both demonstrated a commitment to the support of Australian business in the Philippines which is unmatched.
I wish also to convey to you our appreciation of the support and active collaboration and cooperation with ANZCHAM of the Australian Embassy under the leadership of Ambassador Bill Tweddell, greatly assisted by the

Senior Trade Commissioner, Anthony Weymouth, who also sits on the ANZCHAM Board and did a sterling job in representing Australian business interests in the preparations for the PAMM.
We look forward to continuing our close cooperation with you and indeed the whole Australian Government to grow Australian trade and investment in the Philippines in order to realize the business potential between the two countries.
Yours sincerely,

Ian Porter
President
